Soft Tissue Abrasion
Graze and road rash wound care
Step by Step
Clean the graze under running water to remove dirt and grit, since debris left in a wound can cause infection and permanent marking. Gently pat dry and cover with a clean, non stick dressing. Keep it clean and change the dressing as needed. Watch for signs of infection: spreading redness, swelling, pus, increasing pain, or fever. Seek medical care for large or deep grazes, grit that cannot be removed, grazes on the face or over joints, or signs of infection. A health professional can advise whether tetanus protection is needed.
